No plan for these. No seed packet, no spot picked out, no line item on this year's garden plan. These sunflowers just showed up — a gift from some bird who ate a little too well at somebody's feeder and dropped a seed exactly where it needed to land.
And now here they are, taller than the fence, catching the last light of the evening like they own the place. Which, honestly, at this point, they do.
There's something I really love about a plant you didn't ask for showing up and doing beautifully anyway. Everything else in this garden got measured, spaced, planned, fussed over. These just arrived. No succession calendar, no seed inventory line, nothing I can take credit for — just a bird, a seed, and a whole summer of sunlight doing the rest.
I don't have a tip to share here, or a system, or a reason you need this post. I just wanted to say thank you — to whatever bird decided this corner of the yard needed a little gold in it this year.
