A Proper Shoutout: The Gothic Farmstead

An illustration of garlic bulbs, a tart cherry and pineapple kombucha bottle, and a little horse trailer farm stand

Every so often you stumble onto a place that just gets it, and I need to talk about one of those today: The Gothic Farmstead, out on Saint Croix Road in Pine City.

I went out for one reason — garlic. I'm always looking to bring a new variety into my own garden, and theirs caught my eye. What I did not expect was to leave with a bag of garlic in one hand and the best kombucha I've had in recent memory in the other. Tart cherry and pineapple, fizzy in exactly the way good kombucha should be and so many bottles somehow aren't. I may have made a small noise of appreciation in the parking lot. No comment on that.

And the farmstand itself — a genuine, honest-to-goodness horse trailer, turned into the cutest little shop you've ever seen. Reasonable prices, actual merch (I love a small farm that's confident enough to put its name on a shirt), and a setting so peaceful and serene I could have stayed there with my coffee for an hour just taking it in. You can tell, looking around, exactly how much love and work goes into a place like that. It's not the kind of thing you can fake, and it's not the kind of thing that happens by accident.

So: go visit The Gothic Farmstead. Bring cash for the honesty of it, bring a bag for everything you'll inevitably buy, and bring an appetite for genuinely good kombucha.

They were kind enough to give me the go-ahead for this shoutout, which I don't take lightly — recommending a fellow small operation by name means I'm telling you, personally, that this one's worth your drive. Watch for them in an upcoming newsletter too.

Support your local farmstands, friends. This is exactly what it's supposed to look like.
