It's the first day of fall, and I've decided the correct way to celebrate is to send everybody outside with a checklist and absolutely no other agenda.
This is The Great Fall Treasure Hunt — a free printable scavenger hunt for littles, for whimsical folks of all ages, and honestly for anyone who's forgotten how satisfying it is to find a genuinely good rock. Sixteen little treasures to look for: a red leaf, a leaf with more than one color on it, a bird feather, an orange stone, a penny, a flower (even a weed counts), a frog or a toad, a bug with more legs than you can count, an acorn, a pinecone, something perfectly round, something prickly, a spiderweb you admire and don't touch, a stick shaped like a letter, something bright yellow, and a snail or its shell.
No rush, no rules, no winning. Just noticing. That's the whole point of a day like today — the season turning over, and everybody taking a minute to actually look at it instead of just walking through it.
And because no walk around here happens without a dog along for it, I added a bonus round: Treasures the Dog Found. A stick declared The Best Stick out of all sticks, ever. A mystery smell investigated for far too long. Something they tried to eat that was, in fact, not food. A squirrel they had Strong Opinions about. It felt wrong to send everyone hunting for treasures and leave out the team member who was going to find his own anyway, whether we sanctioned it or not.
There's even a little keepsake box at the bottom of the second page, if you want to tape in a favorite leaf or feather when you get home. Some treasures are worth keeping past the walk.
Download the free Fall Treasure Hunt here — two pages, print at home, no email required. Grab a basket, grab your littles (or just yourself, zero judgment), and go see what the season left behind.
Happy hunting.
